I really don't mean to commit an atrocity by 3D modeling something so iconic of hand-drawn animation so soon after Disney vowed to finally scrap traditional animation once and for all in favor of 3D and Flash...........but I've actually been trying to make (sew) this hat since last December. I've even included my original attempt in this ZIP, because I thought the pattern looked kind of cool even though I didn't like how the hat came out. :XD:

Never been to Disneyland, and probably won't get to go for several more years, so won't really have an opportunity to buy one. :saddummy:

I got the idea to make this lodged in my head after getting Yen Sid's 3D model from Kingdom Hearts----but thought Square's rendition looked too 'off' from the movie for me to ever be satisfied with a papercraft of it. The Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence of "Fantasia" is my favorite Mickey moment of all time! :D

I still haven't verified whether or not it is even true that Disney won't make any more traditionally-animated movies from now on, but I suspect it likely is, and have been so depressed about it lately that I guess I just gravitated back to this old hat project now of all times out of grief. I've NEVER liked the visual style of Pixar movies, or even most 3D with the exception of videogames and steampunk films, (basically I think every attempt to 3D model something "organic"-looking is a bad call that will inevitably date the movie it appears in), so every time I sit down to design a new papercraft I feel overwhelmed by the irony that I'm part of it now. 3D has its place, to be sure, but now more than ever so do real-world handmade crafts----one of THE greatest of which, throughout all time, is the American animated motion picture.

I know several people who idolize Walt even more than I do, and perhaps even dreamed of becoming animators for his company someday. I wrote something consoling/motivational for them which I'd like to post asap, but it really needs a drawing in the background. And therein lies the problem. I for one modeler really do think 3D is easier than drawing! My mind just can't flatten what it imagines to save my life. OTL
